7. Selected works (Late 2020 and the end of 2021)

December 2021 marked the end of sporadic lockdowns in China’s mainland, which had been a truly extraordinary experience. For about to years, people’s movements had been strictly monitored, and entire residential communities, sometimes with populations of several thousand, could be locked down at a moment’s notice.

In the autumn of 2020, I began working as an English teacher at a vocational college nestled near Shenzhen’s airport. I was part of an international programme designed to prepare students for college or university in Australia. It was a very rewarding job. My teaching skills had improved, and I had developed well-articulated teaching plans.

During this time, I also found solace in the solitude of my small studio, where I produced artwork that seemed to be coming together.
